Horticulture Therapy Program
Horticulture Therapy

Helping kids learn about the importance of nurturing living things is the key principle of horticulture therapy. Ozanam's horticultural therapist works with kids throughout the year in the greenhouse while teaching them to care for the plants and drawing correlations about caring for themselves. The on-campus greenhouse serves both a classroom function for the school and a work-site function for the Vocational Education program. Each year, the Horticulture Therapy Program holds a plant sale in the spring, which gives the boys and girls and opportunity to showcase their plant knowledge to the general public. It also raises awareness and funds for the program's greenhouse efforts.

In 1948, Ozanam began as a small home for a handful of boys. Throughout the past 60 years, staff members have continued to recognize and respond to growing needs within the community in order to provide a continuum of care for thousands of children, families, homeless young adults, and schools throughout the Midwest.
