Comprehensive diagnostic and evaluation services

The adolescents referred to Ozanam may be coming from any number of backgrounds and from any variety of prior placement settings. It is important that each young person who is served is viewed as a unique individual with their own special strengths and needs. To assist in this process, Ozanam offers a number of diagnostic and evaluation services to gain better insight into each and every young person who crosses our door. Ozanam also offers a short-term assessment or evaluation for those needing treatment for 30 days or less.

The following services are provided:

  1. Intake Assessment - A thorough social history document that explores the client's strengths and deficits in a number of life domains.
  2. Psychological Evaluation - A battery of projective and subjective psychological instruments, as well as intelligence testing, coupled with social history and diagnostic impressions, and recommendations for treatment.
  3. Psychiatric Evaluation - A psychiatric interview conducted by one of Ozanam's consulting psychiatrists that provides background on the child, as well as a mental status assessment, diagnosis per the DSM-IV, recommendations for pharmacotherapy, and overall recommendations for treatment.
  4. Substance Abuse Assessment - Whether presenting with a personal history of substance use, or having grown up in a home where substance use was present, this assessment can provide a risk indicator for future substance abuse issues, as well as recommendations for substance abuse treatment services.
  5. Sexual Abuse Assessment - A number of children coming to Ozanam will have encountered sexual abuse, and some might be struggling with boundary issues. A variety of sexual abuse assessments can help pinpoint past sexual trauma in the life of a young person and assist in gearing treatment towards the resolution of that trauma.
  6. Education Assessment - A number of assessment options exist to help in determining an adolescent's academic strengths and weaknesses, appropriate grade placement in various areas of curriculum, and the identification of learning or behavioral problems that may make an IEP appropriate.
  7. Art Therapy Assessment - See Art Therapy Section.
